FLYGSAMLINGAR ARLANDA

Arlandagruppen

Enlish In ENGLISH

About Arlandagruppen

The idea of establishing a civil aviation museum was brought within the Civil Aviation Administration (LFV) in 1953 and then began to purposefully take advantage of flight history specimens, which were donated by individuals and businesses. During the late 1960s focused on the LFV to place the proposed museum at the Arlanda airport.
Year 1969 formed LFV’s National Committee. The following year formed the so-called Arlanda group, who voluntarily sought to renovate and maintain the collections. One can safely say that without the airport group’s earnings would not have as many objects preserved.
In this context we also emphasize Bengt Thelander, who usefully captured a lot of objects from the Royal Institute of Technology.
Report by the Civil Aviation Administration’s National Committee proposed guidelines for a future civilian air museum and in 1982 formed the foundation Luft-/och Aerospace Museum
At the end of 1985 was LFV with the support of ABA / SILA and Saab / Scania AB, the current building at Benstocken where Arlanda group held for the renovation work.
Year 1995 formed the foundation Arlanda Aerospace Expo, among others, LFV, SAAB, SAS, Volvo Flygmotor, National Space Board and the SFF and the idea of opening a museum began. The Foundation planned an experience center at Terminal 4, but this fizzled out.
The inauguration of the museum took place on 17 September 1998. After three years, jumped the sponsors of and LFV did not alone account for the operation. The board then decided that the museum would be mothballed as of December 1, 2001 and staff be terminated and that the Foundation would be liquidated.
The Volunteer Group, who set up and found the museum on Saturdays and Sundays, then decided to form the Arlanda Flight Museum’s Friends, which would seem to collections resurrected plus performing renovation and maintenance work on a voluntary basis.
The association was formed on 1 October 2001, renaming April 12, 2008 to Arlanda Flygsamlingars Vänner and currently has about 300 members.
Agreements have also been made with the LFV and the Technical Museum in Stockholm of the above activities.
